'Seven' is being remastered in 4K HDR

16 Jun 2023 | Rasmus Larsen |

Another classic movie is being remastered in 4K for release in 4K HDR. Director David Fincher confirmed that the work on Seven is already underway.

The confirmation came during the Tribeca Festival straight from director David Fincher.

- "We’re doing Seven right now. And we’re going back and doing it in 4K from the original negative and we overscan it, over sample it, doing all of the due diligence and there’s a lot of shit that needs to be fixed," director David Fincher said according to the Hollywood Reporter.

- "Because there’s a lot of stuff that we now can add because high dynamic range. You know, streaming media is a very different thing than 35 mm motion picture negative in terms of what it can actually retain. So there are, you know, a lot of blown-out windows that we have to kind of go back and ghost in a little bit of cityscape out there."

The guns stay

Fincher promised that he is "not gonna take all the guns out of people’s hands and replace them with flashlights".

So while there will be some visual adjustments due to the higher resolution and wider dynamic range (HDR), the remaster should stay true to the original presentation. It was not confirmed when we can expect Seven to be released on UHD Blu-ray and digital 4K UHD. - Source: Hollywood Reporter
