Apple is developing new monitors including a large-screen version with an iOS chip that can double as a smart home display, according to Bloomberg.
In addition to its desktop Macs with built-in monitors, Apple currently sells two monitors; the '6K Pro Display XDR' and '5K Apple Studio Display'.
Both use conventional LCD panels with or without LED local dimming. The company is planning to switch to OLED across its iPad and Mac line-up over the coming years so an interesting question of course is when we can expect to see an external OLED monitor from Apple.
Multiple new Apple monitors
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported this Sunday that Apple is working on multiple "next-generation" monitors. There is no word on whether they will be LCD or OLED, though.
- "I’m told Apple is working on multiple next-generation monitors, including a large-screen panel with an iOS device chip and software stack. The idea is that the screen could double as a Mac monitor and a smart home display with a low-power mode," wrote Mark Gurman, Bloomberg.

Next year at the earliest
He highlighted that the very expensive 6K lacks some of the newer features such as a camera and A-series chip, but did not provide further details as to what we can expect.

A large-screen smart home display sounds intriguing although it is obviously not a TV, based on the description.
- "But I don’t believe a launch will occur until next year at the very earliest," Mark Gurman added in regards to the smart home display.
