Samsung announces 83" S90C OLED TV with LG panel

11 Jul 2023 | Rasmus Larsen |

Samsung has today announced its first 83-inch OLED TV as part of the S90C range. It is Samsung's first TV with a WOLED panel from rival LG Display.

Samsung and LG have formed an OLED partnership under which LG Display will supply Samsung Electronics with WOLED panels. As a result, Samsung will offer TVs with both QD-OLED and WOLED technology. Here is the first one.

- "Large screen sizes are the fastest growing segment in the TV industry. With this new 83-inch class OLED S90C 4K TV model, we are providing yet another option for people to experience the benefits of OLED TV from Samsung, on an even bigger screen," said James Fishler, SVP, Home Entertainment & Display Division, Samsung Electronics America. "We recognize that no two people are the same, and they want to find the perfect TV to fit their unique space and lifestyle. That’s why we’re offering more choices than ever, whether you prefer a Neo QLED 4K, OLED, or even a lifestyle TV. There’s always a premium option for viewers to choose."

Mix of QD-OLED and WOLED

The 83-inch OLED TV is part of the S90C range, which is a confusing decision considering that the smaller versions of S90C are QD-OLED TVs. It comes with Samsung's usual suite of features including the 'Neural Quantum processor', Tizen operating system with apps and the Gaming Hub, HDMI 2.1 ports for 4K 120Hz (and 144Hz), HDR support (but no Dolby Vision), Dolby Atmos support, and the solar-powered remote control.

The company said that it also features a slim design with a 4mm bezel. The TV is rolling out first in the US starting this week at a suggested retail price of $5400, which is roughly the same as the suggested retail price of LG's 83-inch C3 ($5300), although the price of C3 has dropped since launch this spring.
