Rakuten has launched its app on PlayStation 5 in 16 European countries to let PS5 users rent and buy Hollywood movies and access free content with ads.
The Rakuten app comes pre-installed on many Smart TVs and now PS5 owners can also access it directly on their game console.

The app provides access to a movie store where over 10,000 new and old movies can be rented or purchased. A small selection of Hollywood movies is free with ads. The app also offers free channels with ads much like Pluto TV and The Roku Channel.
- "Ranging from AVOD to TVOD and Live Channels, viewers will be able to buy & rent the latest Hollywood titles straight out of cinema, watch for free with ads top Hollywood movies or enjoy free tv channels across various genres such as News, Movies, Kids, Sports or entertainment," said Rakuten.

Available in 16 countries
Rakuten's PS5 app is available now in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK, Poland, Romania.
Sony stopped offering movie rentals and purchases in 2021 and even removed access for users to some of their purchased movies without refunding the purchases.
