LG's wireless M3 OLED TV launches next month starting at £6000

03 Aug 2023 | Rasmus Larsen |

LG has announced that the 'world's first wireless OLED TV' with 4K 120Hz support will be available in September as the M3 series, starting at £6000 in 77 inches.

LG's M3 OLED will be almost exactly like the G3 that FlatpanelsHD recently reviewed, including MLA (Micro Lens Array) technology in 77 inches, except that M3 will be wireless. The M3 OLED TVs will also be available in 83 and 97 inches without MLA.

Unlike Samsung's external One Connect box that requires a cable to the TV, LG's Zero Connect box transmits everything wirelessly.

Next big TV innovation?

LG believes that its Zero Connect box gives the user more flexibility by separating inputs and cables into an external unit, but you obviously still need to connect both the TV and box to the power outlet. - "Wireless OLED TV is an innovation that can only be achieved by LG Electronics, which has created new value as a ‘market pioneer’ over the past 10 years," said Kim Seon-hyeong, LG Electronics Korea HE/BS Marketing Director. "With the freedom of space realized with technology, we will deliver new experiences to customers' daily lives." The M3 screen must be wall-mounted or placed on a floor stand as there is no underside frame due to the wireless receiver being located underneath. The company refers to this as a 'One Wall' design.

LG explained that it is using its own proprietary 'Zero Connect' wireless platform to connect the TV to the Zero Connect box. The two devices communicate over the relatively uncongested 60GHz wireless band with multi-path technology to ensure a stable connection up to 10 meters. The bandwidth is 30Gbps, which is lower than HDMI 2.1's top bandwidth (48Gbps), but LG explains that the wireless signal uses visually lossless compression to deliver uncompromised video up to 4K 120Hz and audio up to Dolby Atmos. The latency between box and TV is said to be less than 5ms – the TV's panel processing will most likely add a little extra. Almost everything is fitted into the external box including three HDMI 2.1 ports, two USB ports, an optical output and Ethernet. M3 also comes with webOS 23, the Alpha 9 Gen6 processor, Dolby Vision, HDMI 2.1 QMS, and LG's 5-year OLED panel warranty.

Starting at £6000

LG M3 was unveiled at CES 2023 in January and based on the announcement we had expected it to be very pricey so we are a little surprised to see it start at £6000 in 77 inches, which is "just" £1000 more than the 77-inch G3. During our briefing LG did not comment on Euro and USD pricing but we are chasing more information. LG M3 will be available in September in North America, Europe and Korea, and later in other markets.
