Sony is planning to launch PlayStation 5 Pro in November 2024 with higher 4K frame rates, 8K support and improved ray-tracing, according to a leaker with a proven track record.
Tom Henderson has previously leaked accurate information before the official announcement about Sony's DualSense Edge controller and the handheld 'Project Q' that Sony has said will launch later this year.
He now claims to know that a more powerful console, codenamed 'Trinity', has been in development since 2022 and that it is the PlayStation 5 Pro.
As you may recall, PlayStation 4 Pro was codenamed 'Neo' and PlayStation VR 'Morpheus' – all Matrix references.
Better 4K, 8K, ray-tracing
Henderson claims that PlayStation 5 Pro will feature improved 4K, 8K and ray-tracing. Ray-tracing is a technology that can be used to improve lighting, shadows and audio in games.
- "As for the consoles performance targets and as to be expected, the PlayStation 5 Pro will be targeting improved and consistent FPS at 4K resolution, a new 'performance mode' for 8K resolution, and accelerated ray tracing," wrote Tom Henderson for KeytoGaming.

He further claims that the PS5 Pro hardware will deliver "30 WGP and 18000mts memory". The existing PlayStation 5 is specified to 18 WGP (Workgroup Processors) so it would represent a significant upgrade in terms of graphics.
Planned for late 2024
Game studios will receive development kits by late November 2023, according to the report, but consumers will have to wait an extra year.
- "PlayStation 5 Pro is in development and is targeting a November 2024 release date," Henderson added.
As for a refresh of the base PlayStation 5, we have previously heard that Sony is planing to launch a PlayStation 5 without a disc drive in September 2023. An optional disc drive will reportedly be sold separately.
