Earlier this week, TCL announced the X955, C955 and C805 ranges and FlatpanelsHD has now confirmed that they are built on the next-gen MediaTek Pentonic 700 chipset.
The new miniLED LCD TVs from TCL have up to 5000 dimming zones, but that is not the only new development compared to the TV models that TCL launched in spring 2023.
X955, C955 og C805 are all built on the next-generation Pentonic 700 chipset (MT9653) from MediaTek that enables new features at launch and possibly more later, according to Marek Maciejewski, Product Development Director Europe at TCL Europe, in an interview with FlatpanelsHD.
Dolby Vision 4K120, Android 12
Pentonic 700 in the TCL X955, C955 and C805 enables Dolby Vision gaming at 4K 120Hz together with a compatible source device such as Xbox Series X.
This brings TCL up to speed versus LG who was the first TV maker to claim Dolby Vision 4K 120Hz support. Marek Maciejewski confirmed that Dolby Vision IQ Precision Detail is also supported.
In addition, it was confirmed to FlatpanelsHD that the TVs will launch on Android version 12 with the Google TV user interface and that DTS:X audio is supported in hardware.
All of this is true for all sizes including the 50-inch C805.

More features may follow later
The MediaTek Pentonic 700 chip is capable of supporting other new features that TCL is currently testing to verify if they work as intended. Marek Maciejewski hinted that we may get news about additional features in the three TV ranges later.
Worth noting is that according to TCL's model number nomenclature these are actually 2024 models that arrive a little early, which helps explain the new features.
TCL's X955, C955 og C805 will start appearing in Europe from September, depending on the size. FlatpanelsHD is chasing confirmed Euro pricing.
