Sony is replacing the original PlayStation 5 console with a new slimmer PlayStation 5, featuring 1TB storage and an attachable disc drive. It is available now in the US.
As announced last month, the slim PlayStation 5 comes with an attachable disc drive. The standard version includes the disc drive pre-installed, while the digital version allows you to purchase and attach the disc drive later if you change your mind.

According to Sony, the new PS5 boasts a reduction in volume by over 30% and weight by 18% and 24%, respectively, compared to its predecessor models. The SSD storage has been upgraded from 825GB to 1TB, and there are now two USB-C ports on the front.
The rest of the hardware remains unchanged, maintaining the ability to output up to 4K at 120Hz with HDR over HDMI 2.1.
No point in upgrading
It is not officially a 'PS5 Slim' and it is far from a 'PS5 Pro' so there is no point in upgrading if you already own a PlayStation 5 console.
The slimmer PS5 targets consumers who do not currently own a PS5.
The slimmer PS5 is available now in the US from retailers such as Amazon bundled with Spider-Man 2 or Call of Duty Modern Warfare III for $500, the same price as the previous PS5. It will soon be available in more regions, with the new PS5 Digital version set to arrive later.
