LG is expanding its streaming platform's footprint by opening up webOS Hub to PC monitors from third-party brands. webOS Hub 2.0S features Apple Home and AirPlay support.
The South Korean company is using webOS in all of its OLED and LCD TVs, and in 2021 it started licensing a modified version called the webOS Hub to third-party TV brands such as Seiki, Blaupunkt and Konka.
The webOS Hub is now branching out to smart monitors from third-party brands, according to an announcement made by LG Korea this month. Such monitors are known as smart monitors and are also available with Samsung's Tizen platform.
- "The new webOS Hub 2.0S presents greater hardware adaptability, broadening its availability beyond smart TVs, and is able to provide more options for third-party brands to offer a customizable user experience."
Streaming apps, Apple features
Like webOS 23 for TVs, webOS Hub 2.0S offers access to popular streaming services such as Netflix, YouTube and Spotify, but the user interface is different and the features limited compared to the full webOS is LG's own devices.
Smart monitors with webOS 2.0S will also be compatible with Apple Home and AirPlay to let users with an iPhone wirelessly push movies, music, and photos to the monitor.

There is also support for USB cameras, remote PCs, and video calling. The USB camera and Apple features are available only on the 1.5GB model with webOS 2.0S, so check before you buy.
LG said that over 300 brands now use webOS. It is part of a goal to make webOS a multi-device platform and to also monetize users through ads.
