Two of the most well-known VPN apps are now available on Apple TV, and can be used to circumvent geo-blocking restrictions to access streaming services.
With the release of tvOS 17, Apple added support for VPN apps on Apple TV HD and Apple TV 4K.
At the time, only a handful of smaller VPN apps were ready but NordVPN and ExpressVPN, in statements to FlatpanelsHD, said that they were working on it.
Now available, and working
NordVPN and ExpressVPN are now both available on Apple TV. The apps can be downloaded from the app store directly on your Apple TV.
Upon setting up VPN on your Apple TV box, the app will prompt tvOS to ask you if you want to add a VPN configuration to Apple TV's settings. This will only happen the first time.
You can select between various countries and in FlatpanelsHD's quick testing with our existing NordVPN subscription, the VPN allowed us to successfully access HBO Max and SkyShowtime as if we were in the country selected. However, Disney+ gave us an error while Netflix acted strange so we will need to do further testing here.
The NordVPN and ExpressVPN apps are free to download but require a subscription plan.
