Dell is finally moving beyond the 60Hz refresh rate in professional monitors, establishing 120Hz as the new standard in its latest pair of 34" and 40" ultrawide monitors.
The 40" U4025QW features 5120x2160 resolution, while the 34" U3425WE features 2560x1440 resolution. Both are curved with 120Hz 'IPS Black' LCD panels.
- "Marking nine years of being an industry leader in PC monitors, Dell continues to push the boundaries of display innovation, bridging the gap for those who demand ultimate performance with the best technology and design," said Dell. "Whether you’re a content creator, data scientist or engineer, or you just need a monitor to keep you in your flow."
Transition to 120Hz
The shift from the longstanding 60Hz, which has dominated office monitors since the introduction of flat panel displays, to 120Hz is noteworthy.
Of course, Dell – and others – already offer gaming monitors that go far beyond 60Hz. However, having a market leader make the leap for office monitors could establish 120Hz as the new norm, providing smoother and sharper visuals

To enable high resolution at 120Hz, Dell has equipped the 40" U4025QW with HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4 ports, along with Thunderbolt 4 that delivers up to 140W of power. The 34" U3425WE features DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.0, complemented by Thunderbolt 4 (up to 90W).
'IPS Black' LCD panel
'IPS Black' is a newer version of the traditional IPS LCD panel, now with a 2000:1 contrast ratio. While this represents a notable improvement, it still does not match the performance of VA LCD and does not enable working with HDR (High Dynamic Range) images or video. Dell notes that the panel covers 98% (U3425WE) or 99% (U4025QW) of DCI-P3.
Other features include USB-A and USB-C ports, Picture-in-Picture (PiP) and Picture-by-Picture (PbP) capabilities, KVM (Keyboard, Video, Mouse) support, an ergonomic stand with tilt, swivel, and height adjustment options, a 2.5 Gbps LAN port, wake-on-LAN functionality, and a built-in ambient light sensor for automatic panel brightness adjustment.
Dell confirmed that the 34" U3425WE and 40" U4025QW monitors will be available starting February 27, priced at $1020 and $2400, respectively.
