150 movies in 3D & new spatial games to launch with Apple Vision Pro next month

09 Jan 2024 | Rasmus Larsen |

Apple Vision Pro is set to launch on February 2, 2024, with more than 150 movies in 3D, new spatial games, and immersive video, which the company sees as a new entertainment format.

Apple envisions that its inaugural mixed reality headset will mark the beginning of the 'spatial computing' era, introducing new entertainment formats – and reviving old ones. It features two micro-OLED displays, each with over 4K resolution per eye, which is significantly higher than Meta's Quest headsets that rely on conventional, contrast-poor LCD panels.

As discovered by FlatpanelsHD last year, Apple has been preparing 3D support in the Apple TV app, bringing 3D movies back into the spotlight.

- "Within the Apple TV app, users can access more than 150 3D titles with incredible depth wherever they are. Vision Pro also introduces Apple Immersive Video, a remarkable new entertainment format pioneered by Apple that puts users inside the action with 180-degree, three-dimensional 8K recordings captured with Spatial Audio. Users can also enjoy new interactive experiences like Encounter Dinosaurs," announced Apple. Apps such as Disney+ and Max will also be available at launch, and at least the Disney+ will include some form of 3D content.

Spatial games

Regular iPad games from the App Store, along with over 250 Apple Arcade games, will be accessible on a virtual screen that "feels 100 feet wide" inside Apple Vision Pro. In addition to these, Apple plans to introduce immersive 'spatial games' to the headset: - "New spatial games, including Game Room, What the Golf?, and Super Fruit Ninja, take advantage of the powerful capabilities of Apple Vision Pro to transform the space around players, offering unique and engaging gameplay experiences." Apple Vision Pro will be available in the US starting February 2, priced at a premium $3500, and expand to more regions later in 2024.
