TCL has unveiled its first two PC monitors in the form of the 27-inch 27R83U and 34-inch 34R83Q, both with 1152 miniLED dimming zones.
At CES 2024 in January, the Chinese company, which is making significant strides in the TV market, hinted at its interest in PC monitors.
TCL has now provided a glimpse of what to expect as it enters the miniLED LCD monitor segment to compete directly with Samsung. Samsung utilizes panels from TCL CSOT in its monitors.
These first LCD monitors from TCL will be marketed as "professional monitors" that double as gaming monitors. Both feature a miniLED backlight with 1152 dimming zones and up to 1600 nits peak brightness, according to the company.
TCL 27R83U and 34R83Q
The difference between the two is that the 34-inch 34R83Q is built on a curved 21:9 aspect ratio VA LCD panel with 3440x1440 resolution, while the 27-inch 27R83U features a flat 16:9 VA LCD with 3840x2160 resolution.

Both monitors are equipped with two HDMI 2.1 ports and a single DisplayPort 1.4. They support HDR10 but lack Dolby Vision support. Additionally, they come factory pre-calibrated to dE < 2, ensuring accurate colors for various tasks including graphics and video editing.
Both monitors feature a 90W USB Type-C interface and KVM functionality, allowing users to control multiple PCs on the same monitor using a single keyboard and mouse setup. There are built-in speakers too.
Up to 170Hz refresh rate
In terms of gaming capabilities, TCL said that 34R83Q supports up to 170Hz, while 27R83U supports up to 160Hz. Although these refresh rates exceed those of the average monitor, they fall short of the latest OLED monitors with up to 480Hz, and we have concerns about how well the miniLED zone dimming will work for gaming.
TCL has not yet disclosed pricing details, but the 34-inch 34R83Q is listed for around 1100 Euros at a few retailers.
Earlier this year at CES, TCL CSOT exhibited its own prototypes of RGB OLED monitor panels for PC monitors and laptops. If TCL advances in OLED technology, it could emerge as a direct competitor to LG, Samsung, and other leading brands in the monitor market.
