After emulator app Delta arrived last month, Provenance has announced that its app will soon be available on both iOS and tvOS for Apple TV, offering much broader support for retro gaming systems.
In April, Apple opened the App Store to emulator apps worldwide.
The first popular emulator made available was the Delta app, which supports game emulation for multiple Nintendo consoles. Delta is not yet available for tvOS, but games can be played on Apple TV wirelessly via AirPlay.
Provenance app for Apple TV
The next major release is set to be the Provenance app, launching for both iOS on iPhone and tvOS on Apple TV in the near future.
- "iOS test was successful late last night and is ready to go and tvOS is being worked on right now. I want to release together to avoid a flood of “where is tvOS” posts. Thank you for your patience and support," the developer of Provenance wrote on X on May 1.
In addition to Nintendo games, Provenance can emulate games from consoles such as PlayStation 1, PSX, Sega (Mega Drive, Master System, Saturn, and more), Atari (2600, 5200, 7800, and more), Magnavox Odyssey and Sinclair ZX Spectrum. The full list can be found below.

PS2, DreamCast & GameCube support
Provenance is also currently working on adding support for PlayStation 2, Sega Dreamcast and Nintendo GameCube.
Provenance supports a wide range of game controllers. Additionally, iOS and tvOS have built-in system-level support for controllers from Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo.
Games need to be loaded into the app as 'ROMs'. While some retro games are available free of charge, others are protected by copyright or exist in a gray area. Multiple websites offer retro games for download as ROMs.
Provenance did not provide a timeline for the launch.
