Acer unveils its first 480Hz OLED monitors & Google TV monitors

31 May 2024 | Rasmus Larsen |

Acer has today unveiled three OLED gaming monitors and two Google TV monitors. The X27U F3 features native 480Hz refresh rate while the X32 X3 can run 480Hz at 1080p resolution.

Like Asus, Acer will this year introduce gamers to 480Hz OLED, which should easily surpass the fastest +500Hz LCD monitors due to LCD's inherent motion blur.

The 27-inch X27U F3 is a native 480Hz panel with 1440p resolution while the larger Acer X32 X3 features a 32-inch 4K 240Hz panel that can also run 480Hz at 1080p resolution. The 34-inch X34 X5 is a curved OLED monitors with a wider 21:9 aspect ratio.

Acer's three monitors are all designed for gaming and support AMD FreeSync and Nvidia G-Sync. The WOLED panels from LG Display deliver HDR pictures with up to 1300 nits peak brightness (1%) and 99% DCI-P3 colors. They all feature HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4. The 27, 32 and 34-inch OLED monitors will all be available in Europe starting in Q3, and starting in Q4 in North America. The suggested retail prices are 1200, 1400 and 1400 Euro, respectively, in Europe, and 1200, 1200 and 1100 USD, respectively, in the US. No, the pricing discrepancy is not an error.

Google TV monitors

In addition, Acer unveiled the FA1 and G1 series of Google TV monitors that will compete with Samsung's Tizen-based monitors and LG's webOS-based monitors. Google TV is a more versatile platform than both Tizen and webOS, so it makes sense to integrate the operating system into a monitor for easy access to streaming apps such as Disney+ and Netflix, but also more work-oriented tasks such as video conferencing, although an external webcam must be connected, said Acer.

They are VA and IPS LCD monitors with 60Hz and either 4K or 1440p resolution. They are not fit for gaming or HDR viewing. Acer FA1 and G1 will both be available in 27- and 32-inch versions starting at 300 Euro / 330 USD in Europe and North America in Q4.
