The world's first commercial camera system for Apple's new 8K 3D 180-degree Immersive Video format has been unveiled. DaVinci Resolve will also be updated to support it.
How did Apple and its partners shoot the wildly impressive 8K 3D 180-degree immersive videos, such as Adventure or Alicia Keys: Rehearsal Room, which are exclusively available on Apple TV+ for the Vision Pro headset?
Even more of these 8K 3D immersive videos will soon be available on Vision Pro (see new titles below), Apple announced at WWDC 24, as the Vision Pro is set to expand to 8 more countries starting June 28.
Apple is even experimenting with sports in 8K 3D.

First commercial camera unveiled
It is a question many have been asking, and a camera system that has led to much speculation after it has been spotted at major sport stadiums around the USA. We now have answers.
As hinted during the WWDC 2024 keynote, the first-ever commercial camera system for Apple Immersive Video, as the company has dubbed its 8K 3D 180-degree video format, is the Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive camera.

The Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive
- "We are thrilled to announce the first-ever commercial camera system and post-production software that supports Apple Immersive Video, giving professional filmmakers the tools to create remarkable stories with this powerful new format pioneered by Apple," said Grant Petty, Blackmagic Design CEO.
- "Built on the new URSA Cine platform, URSA Cine Immersive features a fixed, custom, stereoscopic 3D lens system with dual 8K image sensors that can capture 16 stops of dynamic range. With this innovative system, filmmakers can record remarkable moments like action-packed scenes, unique perspectives, stunning landscapes, intimate performances, and more, all with incredible fidelity, offering viewers an unparalleled sense of realism and immersion."
DaVinci Resolve update
You may know Blackmagic as the company behind the popular DaVinci Resolve post-production software that is widely used in Hollywood.
DaVinci Resolve will also get updated to support Apple Immersive Video, giving professional filmmakers and other video editors the ability to edit in the format. For this purpose, a new Blackmagic RAW Immersive file format is being introduced.
- "An updated version of DaVinci Resolve will introduce powerful new features to create a comprehensive workflow for immersive video on Apple Vision Pro. Blackmagic customers will be able to edit Apple Immersive Video shot on the URSA Cine Immersive camera. A new immersive video viewer will let editors pan, tilt and roll clips for viewing on 2D monitors or on Apple Vision Pro for an even more immersive editing experience," explained Blackmagic.
3D up to 90fps with spatial audio
Blackmagic confirmed that the camera can shoot stereoscopic 3D at up to 90 frames per second, which is significantly higher than the current 48fps frame rate used for 3D movies such as Avatar: The Way of Water.
The higher frame rate makes 3D footage look more realistic with clearer and more detailed motion, while spatial audio will make the soundscape feel more immersive.
