LG, Hyatt and Google have announced that Google Cast – built-in Chromecast – will be enabled in LG hotel TVs starting this fall via a software update.
Following Apple's roll-out of AirPlay in IHG hotels, Google announced plans at CES 2024 to also implement Google Cast functionality into TVs found in hotel rooms, making it easier for travelers to enjoy their own content and subscription services while on the go.
This week, we learned more about the initiative as consumer electronics maker LG and hotel chain Hyatt were announced as launch partners at the HITEC 2024 trade show.
- "Google Cast capabilities built into LG hotel TVs will give hotel operators the best integrated solution that reduces costs and allows guests to pick up where they left off in their personal streaming services." said Tiger Lan, Google’s Senior Director of engineering for multi-device experiences.
How it will work
The parties confirmed that Google Cast in hotel TVs will work just like a normal Chromecast via both mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets, and PCs.
It will work with more than 3000 cast-enabled apps including both video and music apps, allowing you to stream movies on the TV in your hotel room from the likes of Disney+, Max and Netflix, or listen to music from Spotify or other music streaming services.

To get started, the guest must scan a QR code shown on the TV to establish a cast connection. The guest will be able to control playback (play/pause, volume, etc.) via the mobile device or with the TV's remote control. The TV will automatically reset when guests check out.
LG said the Google Cast feature will be enabled on its latest 43-to-75-inch 'Pro:Centric smart hotel TVs' via a software update this fall, starting in the US in select hotel rooms under the Hyatt Hotels Corporation. It will later expand to more hotels and countries.
