Acer can now claim the fastest refresh rate with the introduction of the 24-inch Nitro XV240 F6, boasting 600Hz. But is it really faster than 480Hz OLED?
Acer's new monitor outpaces Asus' 540Hz LCD monitor from 2023.
The 24-inch Nitro XV240 F6 features a TN LCD panel with 1920x1080 resolution and 600Hz refresh rate. It brings us one step closer to the 1000Hz milestone, which is crucial not only for reducing latency and achieving smoother motion but also for minimizing motion blur in sample-and-hold displays, as explained in this BlurBusters article.

The DisplayPort 1.4 connection is required to push 600Hz to the monitor.
In December 2022, panel maker BOE demonstrated the first 600Hz LCD panel with a prototype for laptops, but as far as we are aware it never made it to any consumer products.
Faster than 480Hz OLED?
Acer's monitor will be available in Q1 2025 for $599 / €899, so it is possible that it may be surpassed before it hits the market. However, the more relevant question is whether it will actually surpass the 480Hz OLED monitors that are becoming available as we speak.
240Hz OLED panels already outperform 360Hz LCD panels in terms of motion blur due to OLED's faster response time, so a 480Hz OLED could quite possibly surpass the 600Hz LCD as well.
What is certain, however, is that Acer's monitor will not deliver the same high picture quality as any of the OLED monitors. The TN LCD panel is fast but does not produce great picture quality, with limited contrast, color and viewing angles. It is not HDR-capable in any capacity either. OLED is slowly but steadily pushing LCD technology out of the gaming market.
Acer also announced the Nitro XV270 F5, a 27-inch 520Hz monitor with 1080p IPS LCD, and the Nitro XV270U F5, a 27-inch 500Hz monitor with 1440p IPS LCD.
