Sony debuts 480Hz OLED monitor with DisplayPort 2.1 & HDMI 2.1

25 Sep 2024 | Rasmus Larsen |

Sony has announced its first OLED gaming monitor, the 27-inch Inzone M10S, built on an LG Display OLED panel. It features both HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 2.1.

Sony expanded into gaming monitors with the Inzone gaming brand in mid-2022.

The LCD monitors from 2022 were underwhelming, but with the introduction of the Inzone M10S, Sony is stepping to the forefront, taking on Asus and LG who were the first to release 480Hz OLED monitors. Sony's monitor should also easily outperform even 600Hz LCDs.

- "Working closely with Fnatic pro players, the Inzone M10S combines Sony's experience in creating premium displays with the expertise and knowledge of professional gamers. The INZONE M10S has been designed to deliver image quality, ergonomics, and performance enhancing modes to create the ultimate tournament monitor," announced Sony.

The Sony Inzone M10S

The monitor is built on LG Display's 27-inch OLED panel with MLA (micro lenses) for improved brightness and energy efficiency. It features 2560x1440 resolution (16:9), 480Hz refresh rate, VRR (plus G-Sync), up to 1300 nits peak brightness and 275 nits full-screen brightness. Unlike Sony's previous gaming monitors, this panel delivers HDR picture quality in games. In addition to OLED's pixel-level control of luminance and color, the panel covers 98.5% of the DCI-P3 color space. It has a matte coating. - "I have been working on the development of the INZONE M10S, and I'm happy to have made some impact to help improve the products. An OLED monitor is the best solution for me, with zero response time and a range of very good colors, it gives me no excuses for poor performance! This is the end game for gaming monitors," said Timofey 'Chronicle' Khromov from the Fnatic VALORANT team. All MLA OLED panels from LG Display come with a built-in heatsink, but according to Sony, this one has been modified to help keep the monitor cooler during gaming.

HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 2.1

The monitor will be one of the first to feature DisplayPort 2.1, which was announced way back in 2019 and later renamed as DisplayPort 2.1, reportedly due to technical challenges. However, according to Sony, DisplayPort 2.1 in this monitor is limited to UHBR10 speeds, so the advantage over DisplayPort 1.4 is negligible. Like other 480Hz OLED monitors, it also features HDMI 2.1. The Sony Inzone M10S will be available in early October for $1100 from retailers such as amazon.com here.
