You can now play Steam PC games on Android TV and select iOS devices with HDR or AV1 video compression for improved visual quality. The update also fixes surround sound on Android TV.
The Steam Link app lets you stream PC games over your home network from a gaming PC to your TV screen or another device connected to a game controller.
The app has been available for Android TV (and Google TV) since 2018 and for Apple TV since 2019, after Valve decided to discontinue its dedicated Steam Link box.
HDR support for some devices
Steam Link has also been discontinued on Samsung Smart TVs, but Valve continues developing the app for Android and iOS/tvOS.
The latest 1.3 updates have expanded video support to include HDR (High Dynamic Range). According to Valve, it works on Android TV (Google TV) devices. It also works on some iOS devices with HDR displays, though not yet on Apple TV. The host Windows PC must also support HDR.

AV1 support for some devices
Additionally, Steam Link now includes an option for AV1 video streaming from compatible high-end PCs to AV1-compatible Google TV devices. It also works on iPhone 16 but not yet on Apple TV 4K, as it lacks AV1 support.
AV1 is a newer video compression format that delivers higher video quality at the same bitrate.
Steam Link is free to download for Android (here) and iOS/tvOS (here).
