Amazon is expanding its TV line-up with the Fire TV Omni MiniLED, a 4K LCD TV with up to 1344 miniLED dimming zones and up to 1400 nits peak brightness.
After launching the Fire TV operating system around 10 years ago, Amazon has started making its own TVs. The first TVs were entry level models but Amazon is gradually stepping up.
There is still no OLED TV from Amazon but the new Fire TV Omni adds a more advanced miniLED backlight behind the traditional LCD panel for the first time.

- "Fire TV Omni Mini-LED Series optimizes picture quality, audio, and performance to deliver Amazon's best and most innovative TV yet. The Omni Mini-LED Series features a stunning, cinematic QLED Mini-LED display and delivers up to 1,400 nits of peak brightness and up to 1,344 dimming zones—plus support for Dolby Vision IQ, and HDR10+ Adaptive—bringing out every detail with more vibrant colors, deeper blacks, and richer contrast," said Daniel Rausch, Vice President, Alexa and Fire TV.
Available in 55 to 85 inches starting at $820, it will compete with similar miniLED LCD models from the likes of Hisense, TCL and Samsung.
With HDMI 2.1 and WiFi 6E
In addition to miniLED, Dolby Vision IQ and HDR10+ Adaptive, the Fire TV Omni MiniLED features two HDMI 2.1 ports (and two HDMI 2.0) with support for gaming features (VRR, ALLM), up to 144Hz, and Dolby Atmos.
In addition, it features WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2.
The FireTV platform now supports 'Intelligent Picture' to adjust "brightness and color temperature for optimal viewing—day or night". In other words a more advanced light sensor.
There is also FireTV's Ambient Experience, now with immersive art, and the AI Art feature to let you generate your own artwork. And plenty of ads in the FireTV user interface, of course.
