LG has finally unveiled its first gaming monitor based on the 27-inch 480Hz OLED panel with DisplayPort 2.1.
Update: LG has removed all references to 80Gbps (UHBR20) bandwidth and is now saying that it is limited to UHBR13.5 @ 54Gbps.
Acer, Asus and Sony have already announced 27-inch 480Hz monitors built on LG Display's panel, so many have been wondering what LG Electronics has been waiting for.
We now have the answer: DisplayPort 2.1.

Designed for next-gen GPUs
Unlike Sony's 480Hz monitor, which also features DisplayPort, the 27-inch LG GX7 (27GX790A) has UHBR20 bandwidth for 80Gbps allowing for uncompressed 1440p 480Hz from the PC's graphics card (GPU) to the monitor. Update: LG has removed all references to 80Gbps (UHBR20) bandwidth, now saying that it is limited to UHBR13.5 @ 54Gbps.
Now we just need the next-generation GPUs with DisplayPort 2.1
- "Incorporating DisplayPort 2.1 and HDMI 2.1 interfaces, the 27-inch UltraGear OLED gaming monitor ensures compatibility with the latest consoles and gaming PCs, as well as next-generation GPUs expected to launch in early 2025. DisplayPort 2.1 yields a 67 percent increase in bandwidth compared to DisplayPort 1.4, meaning it can support higher resolutions and refresh rates," announced LG.
480Hz OLED gaming
LG's 27-inch 27GX790A is naturally optimized for gaming. The flat WOLED panel features 2560x1440 pixels, a 480Hz refresh rate, 0.03ms (G2G) response time and VRR support (G-Sync and FreeSync Premium Pro).
The monitor is part of the new wave of ultra-fast WOLED and QD-OLED monitors that are pushing LCD gaming monitors out of the market.
As such, LG 27GX790A is expected to significantly surpass the current 600Hz LCD monitors in speed and even more so picture quality. Due to its OLED panel it can also reproduce HDR (High Dynamic Range) images.
Plus two HDMI 2.1 ports
In addition to DisplayPort 2.1, it comes with two HDMI 2.1 ports. It also supports VESA's Display Stream Compression (DSC), so even with today's GPUs you will be able to achieve 1440p 480Hz with signal compression.
The LG UltraGear 27GX790A will be available soon for $1000 dollars.
