The new monitors for 2025 could include 500Hz QD–OLED, 27-inch 4K QD–OLED and a 45-inch WOLED panel featuring higher resolution, according to recent rumors.
The release of a 500Hz QD-OLED panel by Samsung Display is imminent, according to Korean newspaper ETNews.
500Hz QD–OLED would represent the fastest OLED monitor panel to date, outpacing LG Display’s 480Hz WOLED panels currently found in monitors from Asus, LG Electronics and Sony. Samsung Display is also supplying popular brands such as Asus and Samsung Electronics.
- "Samsung Display is developing a 27-inch quantum dot (QD)-OLED panel with QHD (2560x1440) resolution that implements a 500Hz refresh rate. Currently, the development is in the final stage, and we are discussing commercialization with major monitor manufacturers for the release in the first half of next year," reports ETNews (machine translated).
27-inch QD-OLED with 4K
While today’s 27-inch QD–OLED and WOLED monitors max out at 1440p resolution, manufacturers are expected to upgrade the 27-inch size to 4K resolution in 2025.
A Chinese monitor brand, Light Soul, is preparing to launch a 27-inch QD–OLED with 3840x2160 resolution, 240Hz refresh rate and 1000 nits peak brightness, according to a Chinese publication (via Reddit). This same panel is likely to appear in monitors from other brands as well.
This is not surprising as Samsung Display teased the panel behind closed doors back in January 2024 at CES, as reported by FlatpanelsHD in our 'future of displays' article here.

45-inch ultrawide WOLED
A third evolution for 2025 appears to be a 45-inch WOLED panel with a higher resolution than the current 3440x1440 pixels, most likely 5120x2160 pixels.
One of the first monitors expected to feature this panel is the LG 45GX950A, which has been spotted in a Korean certification database.

As noted by TFTCentral, this panel will likely adopt the newer RGWB pixel layout (instead of RWBG) to improve text rendering, already found in the current 32-inch 4K panel. Additionally, it would require DisplayPort 2.1, which has faced multiple delays.
The first 2025 monitors are expected to be unveiled in late December with a broader showcase at CES 2025 in January. FlatpanelsHD will be on-site to bring you the latest news.
