Meta's Quest headset will become the exclusive MR platform for James Cameron's Lightstorm Vision, the companies have announced.
In the race against the Apple Vision Pro – and soon Google/Samsung – Meta has partnered with James Cameron's Lightstorm Vision to develop 3D content.
- "Today, we're thrilled to announce a new partnership between (Cameron's) venture, Lightstorm Vision, and Meta, to scale the creation of world-class 3D entertainment experiences spanning live sports and concerts, feature films, and TV series featuring big-name IP on Meta Quest – which will be Lightstorm Vision’s exclusive MR hardware platform," announced Meta.

Content and tech collaboration
Meta and Lightstorm Vision will collaborate on creating 3D content for Meta Quest.
- "Fantastic news… Announcing a comprehensive, multi-year partnership with Meta to revolutionize ALL visual media," said James Cameron.
- "Recently, Boz (Andrew Bosworth, Meta CTO and Head of Reality Labs) showed me some of Meta’s advanced tech. I was amazed by its transformational potential and power, and what it means for content creators globally. I’m convinced we’re at a true, historic inflection point. Navigating that future with Meta will ensure ALL of us have the tools to create, experience, and enjoy new and mind-blowing forms of media."
The partnership will also make Lightstorm's 3D and VR content creation tools, some powered by AI, available to other creators.
Not related to Cameron's movies
At this time, the partnership focuses solely on Lightstorm Vision and does not include James Cameron's upcoming films, such as Avatar: Fire and Ash.
For example, Cameron's 3D version of Avatar: The Way of Water is not tied to Lightstorm Vision and has been made available in 3D HFR exclusively on Apple Vision Pro.
All Meta Quest headsets currently use LCD panels, delivering subpar picture quality.
