In its annual recognition of the best apps on its platforms, Apple highlights F1 TV as the best app for Apple TV, along with What If.. An Immersive Story and Thrasher as the best VR/AR apps.
If you watch Formula 1 through your local or regional broadcaster, it might be time to check out the alternative. Formula 1’s own streaming service, F1 TV, has continuously improved in quality and functionality. For example, you can be transported into the cockpit.

In 2024, Apple named F1 TV the best app.
- "This award is a testament to the hard work and dedication that goes on behind the scenes to create an immersive viewing experience that captivates fans and places them at the centre of the action. The entire team involved in the development and production of F1 TV is honoured and thanks Apple for this recognition," said Ian Holmes, Director of Media Rights and Content Creation at Formula 1.
Previously, apps such as Mubi, Dazn, ViX, The Explorers and Sweat have been selected as apps of the year.
Best VR/AR Apps
Following the launch of Apple Vision Pro earlier this year, the company has also started picking the best apps for VR and AR.
In its first year, the best app award went to What If.. An Immersive Story from Disney, where users become part of an interactive Marvel story. The best game award went to Thrasher: Arcade Odyssey, where players guide a space eel through psychedelic realms using hand controls.

Apple TV awards dropped
The company, however, has stopped awarding the best games for Apple TV, which it previously did every year.
This reflects the underpowered gaming hardware in Apple TV 4K and weak support from game developers. The Apple TV 4K hardware has not been upgraded since 2022 and is currently equipped with an iPhone chip.
Rumor has it that a new Apple TV will launch ni 2025.
