Ahead of CES 2025, LG has unveiled an updated LCD TV line-up, branded "QNED" and now "QNED evo". Key models include QNED90, a 100-inch QNED89 and QNED9M with a Zero Connect box.
LG's LCD TVs have never matched the popularity of its OLED models, mainly due to the use of contrast-poor IPS LCD panels. Starting in March 2025, LG will have to rethink its strategy, as LG Display plans to close the chapter on LCD TV panels by selling its last plant to TCL CSOT.
Based on the new 100-inch QNED89 and 85-inch QNED90, it appears that LG Electronics has at least partly turned to new panel suppliers, backed by the fact that it is abandoning quantum dots in the new "QNED evo" models:
- "The 2025 QNED evo lineup boasts an improved color gamut compared to previous models by applying LG’s new proprietary wide color gamut technology, Dynamic QNED Color Solution, which replaces quantum dots," announced LG.
LG's 2025 LCD TV line-up
Spearheading LG's 2025 LCD TV line-up is QNED90 with miniLED local dimming, though the number of dimming zones is still unconfirmed. The existing 8K QNED99 will carry over into 2025 in another sign of LG's limited interest in 8K.
Stepping down, QNED9M lacks miniLED but introduces the wireless Zero Connect box first seen with the M3 OLED. The Zero Connect can transmit up to 4K 144Hz to the TV, which supports 144Hz refresh. The TV screen still requires a power cord.

The new 100-inch QNED89 will include some form of local dimming (not miniLED). LG previously launched a 98-inch model with a TCL panel but the 100-inch may use a VA LCD panel from BOE, pending confirmation.
The cheaper QNED85 will be available up to 86 inches with 144Hz (except 50 and 55-inch). QNED82 and QNED80 are fairly conventional LCD TVs. Additionally, LG will release UA7500 and UA7300, which are basic 60Hz LCD TVs with webOS 25.
New remote and webOS upgrades
In 2025, LG is launching a redesigned, smaller, but still motion controlled remote, featuring an 'AI' voice button. The numbered 1-9 buttons are gone and volume controls have been relocated. The 'AI Magic Remote' also omits the input button, mirroring Samsung's design. The design of the remote will be revealed at CES 2025 in January.
webOS 25 will still be ad-heavy and will provide access to streaming services. New features include an 'AI sound mode' and voice search that has been enhanced with AI. The home hub has also been refreshed.
LG's 2025 LCD TVs are expected to launch in spring/summer 2025, with pricing to be confirmed later.
