Samsung announces 2025 QD-OLED monitors with 500Hz, 4K 240Hz

02 Jan 2025 | Rasmus Larsen |

Ahead of CES 2025, Samsung has announced its 2025 line-up of QD-OLED monitors including upgraded G8 and G6 models. The company will also launch the Odyssey 3D.

Hot on the heels of LG announcing 2025 OLED monitors, Samsung has revealed its new 2025 OLED monitor line-up.

We will get a chance to see and try the new monitors next week at CES, but here are the first details – we are chasing more.

First 500Hz QD-OLED monitor

Samsung's 2025 Odyssey OLED G6 (G60SF) is the first QD-OLED monitor to achieve a 500Hz refresh rate, as rumored and reported by FlatpanelsHD last month. The G60SF has a 27-inch panel with a 2560x1440 resolution. The fastest OLED monitors today are the 480Hz WOLED monitors based on a panel from LG Display. Samsung's 2025 Odyssey OLED G8 (G81SF), meanwhile, is the first 27-inch QD-OLED monitor with 4K resolution (3840x2160) and a 240Hz refresh rate. This QD-OLED panel is produced by Samsung Display and is expected to also appear in monitors from brands such as Asus and Dell. Both models support VRR for gaming, including both FreeSync and G-Sync Compatible.

First OLED smart monitor

In addition, Samsung is launching an upgraded smart monitor with built-in Tizen, the company's TV operating system with access to streaming apps for video and cloud gaming, plus a significant number of ads. The M9 (M90SF) will feature a QD-OLED panel for the first time in a Samsung smart monitor designed for general media consumption. It is a 32-inch panel with a 4K resolution and a 165Hz refresh rate. It also features a built-in 4K camera and '4K AI Upscaling Pro' technology. Meanwhile, the new Viewfinity S8 is a large 37-inch LCD monitor with a 3840x2160 (16:9) aspect ratio designed for productivity and work. It features USB-C with up to 90W charging.

The Odyssey 3D monitor

Samsung has for a while been toying with the idea of reintroducing 3D monitors, and last year at CES 2024 we concluded that the company's 37-inch 4K prototype was the best glasses-free 3D monitor yet. Samsung is now launching a monitor with this glasses-free 3D technology, where a front camera tracks the user's eyes in real-time to adjust a lenticular lens. The Odyssey 3D (G90XF) is a 27-inch monitor with 4K resolution intended for gaming, but it is unclear exactly what type of display panel technology it uses.

The Odyssey 3D can also utilize AI-based technology to convert regular content into 3D, including games and video. Samsung did not announce any new "QLED" monitors, as these rebranded LCD monitors seem to be going out of fashion quickly due to the introduction of significantly better OLED monitors that will expand beyond gaming applications in 2025.
