With the pandemic and Hollywood strikes in the rearview mirror, Netflix is back in high gear. The streaming service has just unveiled this year's highlights.
Three of Netflix's biggest TV series are returning in 2025: Stranger Things Season 5, Wednesday season 2, and Squid Game season 3. The first two do not yet have a release date, but Squid Game arrives on June 27, 2025.
- "This is our biggest and most ambitious season yet," said co-creator Ross Duffer. "At the same time, we think it's our most personal story. It was super intense and emotional to film — for us and for our actors," added co-creator Matt Duffer.
The brothers also confirmed that in 2026 they will begin production on The Boroughs and Something Very Bad is Going to Happen, both set to premiere on Netflix.
New series include Zero Day starring Robert De Niro, Death by Lightning from the creators of Game of Thrones, and Black Rabbit featuring Jason Bateman and Jude Law. Release dates can be found in the table at the bottom.

Movies like 'Frankenstein'
On the film front, Netflix highlighted a new Frankenstein by filmmaker Guillermo del Toro.
Other major movie releases this year include RIP, a crime thriller starring Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, The Electric State and Happy Gilmore 2.

We're not afraid to make big bets on compelling voices and new ideas — whether it's a plot twist, an original story, or a big live moment," said Bela Bajaria, Netflix Chief Content Officer.

What about games?
Bajaria did not mention gaming in her statement, an area where Netflix still faces several technical challenges in supporting games on TV devices.
However, the company is continuing its push in 2025 with titles such as Carmen Sandiego, Football Manager 2025 Mobile, Squid Game: Unleashed, Steel Paws and Street Fighter IV: Champion Edition.
Additionally, WWE 2K games will be exclusively available on Netflix starting in the fall. The company recently pointed to four gaming categories it plans to focus on in the near future.
