Once, Gran Turismo was exclusive to PlayStation and Forza exclusive to Xbox. Soon, both titles will be available to play on PlayStation 5 as part of Microsoft's new strategy.
In February 2024, Microsoft announced that they will begin releasing more games on other consoles including PlayStation and Nintendo – games that have previously been exclusive to Xbox.
Microsoft owns several major game studios including Xbox Game Studio, Activision Blizzard and ZeniMax Media. They develop some of the biggest game franchises today.
Forza on PlayStation 5
Along with Call of Duty, Forza is one of Microsoft's largest franchises in console gaming, so it is a surprise to see the game ported to PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro.
- "With nearly 900 cars available in the game, over 40 thematic game updates, two expansions, and so much more content, our team is excited to announce that this spring, PlayStation 5 players will be able to explore Mexico’s beautiful roads and experience the Horizon Festival for the first time as we are officially launching Forza Horizon 5 on PS5.," announced Playground Games, the developer of Forza.

Cross-play and expansion pack
Initially, Forza Horizon 5 will be released with the same content as on Xbox and PC. An expansion pack called Horizon Realm will soon be available for all platforms. There will be cross-play between PC, PS5, and Xbox.

Microsoft’s move away from exclusive games is part of a larger strategic shift, where Xbox is being transformed into a platform rather than a physical console. This will make Xbox games widely available across platforms and via game streaming.
As for hardware, Microsoft has said that it is planning to abandoning physical consoles. However, low inventory of Xbox Series X and S across many regions paints a different picture.
