Philips Hue app launches on newer LG Smart TVs

25 Feb 2025 | Rasmus Larsen |

After the announcement at CES last month, Signify says that the Philips Hue app is now available for 2024 or newer LG Smart TVs.

Already available for some Samsung Smart TVs, the Philips Hue app is now also available to download from the app store on LG Smart TVs – both LCD and OLED – running webOS 24 or later. Update: This apparently includes only 2024 and 2025 LG models – not earlier generations of TVs upgraded to webOS 24.

- "The Philips Hue Sync TV app from Signify, the world leader in lighting, is now also available for LG TVs. The app, which can be used worldwide on all compatible LG TVs, offers users the opportunity to synchronize their smart lamps and lights from Philips Hue with the TV picture in order to create an even more immersive TV experience," announced Signify.

Up to 10 Hue lights

The app offers dynamic light synchronization across all sources, including built-in streaming apps and external HDMI devices like game consoles. It supports content such as Dolby Vision and up to 8K resolution. You can connect up to 10 Hue lights to your LG TV.

This is in contrast to the Philips Hue HDMI box, which only works with external HDMI sources – not apps built into the Smart TVs or broadcast TV. However, its functionality still does not match the full capabilities of Ambilight, which remains the only mood lighting system integrated directly TVs from Philips. The Philips Hue app is available globally and is priced at 130 USD/Euro, or 3 USD/Euro monthly. The monthly subscription can be used on up to three devices.
