Every two hours, in an endless loop, a privacy pop-up appears on Samsung's TVs. Users are discussing potential fixes, but a firmware update may be required.
Some owners only see it once, but many cannot get rid of it. The pop-up message is meant to inform users about Samsung's privacy policy and its practice of collecting vast amounts of user data, including data on everything you watch on your TV through ACR (Automatic Content Recognition).
- "For the past 2 days, I've been getting an EXTREMELY annoying popup notification with small ding sound. This pops up about every 2 hours and disappears in 5 seconds," wrote one owner.
The issue is being discussed on Samsung's community board and Reddit, as reported by TechRadar. There are reports of it occurring on 2022 and 2023 Samsung TVs, but the issue is likely more widespread.
Is there a fix?
Users are exploring potential solutions, as Samsung's customer support, which is reportedly handling many complaints about the issue, has not provided an official solution yet.
Some users say that it can be fixed by disconnecting the Samsung Smart TV from the internet, which we recommend anyway for privacy reasons and due to ACR. You should consider using an external streaming device like Apple TV 4K instead.
One user had success logging into their Samsung account on the website to accept the new privacy terms, which removed the pop-up notification on the TV.
However, there does not seem to be an official fix yet and since it is likely a software bug, it may require a firmware update from Samsung, who is currently investigating the issue.
