Streaming service F1 TV has launched a new Premium subscription, which for the first time lets you stream Formula 1 in 4K, HDR and Multiview.
F1 TV was launched as a streaming service in beta in 2019. In late 2021, apps for TV platforms were finally released. Now, the streaming service is adding new, more expensive Premium subscription plan.
Formula 1 in 4K HDR
With the new Premium subscription, all F1 races can be streamed in 4K resolution with High Dynamic Range (HDR).
The stream is 4K at 50 frames per second with around 14 Mbps video bitrate without HDR and 17 Mbps video bitrate with HDR, i.e an expanded range of color and luminance.
F1 TV Premium is priced at $130 in the US. Check the local price on the F1 TV website.
F1 TV introduces Multiview
With the launch of Premium, F1 TV is also introducing a new Multiview feature, where the user can combine multiple feeds from the race. Multiview does not work on Android, it said.
It is possible to stream on up to 6 devices simultaneously.
In addition, the usual F1 TV features are included, including onboard cameras, team radio and replays. You also have access to F2, F3, F1 Academy, Porsche Supercup and content from the archive. However, on-demand content is not typically available in 4K.

Apple TV 4K or Roku
F1 TV confirmed that 4K HDR at launch is only supported in the app available for Apple TV 4K (tvOS) and Roku.
Roku is not widely available in Europe so many subscribers are left with Apple TV 4K as the only option right now. The first generation of Apple TV 4K is limited to 4K HDR at 30fps, so you need the second or third generation Apple TV 4K to stream in 4K HDR and 50fps.
The F1 TV app is also available on Google TV, but it is currently limited to HD resolution and SDR. The same applies to AirPlay, Google Cast (Chromecast), web browsers and the Android mobile app.
On iPad and iPhone (iOS), streaming is available in HDR but maximum HD resolution.
