At CinemaCon 2025, Dolby and Christie introduced a more compact Dolby Vision laser projector for cinemas. Dolby also announced plans to add 40 more auditoriums in the coming years.
Dolby's new RGB laser projector conforms to Dolby's Wide Color Gamut 1.0, offering a color gamut of 112% of standard DCI-P3 projectors. It also delivers brighter images.
While it cannot match cinema LED screens or deliver true HDR – it is limited to SDR and EDR (which Dolby also brands as Dolby Vision) – it will help expand the footprint of premium cinemas.

- "With substantially enhanced reliability and efficiency, this next-generation Dolby Vision laser projection system delivers superior long-term performance and ease of operation. Moreover, with its lighter-weight design, along with a smaller chassis, it will integrate more easily into a range of premium theatrical offerings which will extend the reach of Dolby Vision to even more audiences," the company said about the new projector produced by Christie.
The new projection system will begin rolling out in May.
Dolby Cinema expansion
At CinemaCon 2025, AMC and Dolby also announced a major expansion of Dolby Cinema in the US, with 40 additional auditoriums planned by the end of 2027.
This represents a nearly 25% increase in Dolby Cinema locations at AMC, surpassing 200. These locations feature laser projection and showcase movies in Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. While Dolby Cinema is positioned as an alternative to IMAX, it remains relatively scarce worldwide.
- "Premium moviegoing is defining the modern box office," said Kevin Yeaman, President and CEO, Dolby Laboratories. "In expanding our longstanding partnership with AMC, we look forward to providing even more audiences with access to the most immersive film experiences that you can only get at Dolby Cinema."
Over 725 theatrical features have been released or confirmed in Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, including upcoming titles like Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, Karate Kid: Legends, F1, Jurassic World Rebirth, Avatar: Fire and Ash, and more. Of the top 50 movies from the past five years, 49 were shown in Dolby Cinema.
Dolby Cinema expands to India
Lastly, Dolby announced plans to open Dolby Cinema locations in India.
- "City Pride in Pune, Allu Cineplex in Hyderabad, LA Cinema in Trichy, AMB Cinemas in Bengaluru, EVM Cinemas in Kochi, and G Cineplex in Ulikkal will be the first six exhibitors to open Dolby Cinema screens in India," the company said.
India's first Dolby Vision color grading facility for cinema was also recently set up in Hyderabad.
