After the price increase on console games from 70 to 80 Euro with the launch of PS5 and Xbox Series, Nintendo is raising prices yet again to 90 Euro on some games.
Nintendo confirmed the higher prices for the Switch 2 console, accessories and games on its European websites, including in Germany and Spain.
On the website, Mario Kart World is listed for 80 Euro for a digital version and 90 Euro for a physical cartridge, which will likely be 80 dollar in the US. Donkey Kong Banana will cost 70 and 80 Euro, respectively.
The pricing history
Disregarding special editions of games, console games have sold for 60 dollar per game for several console generations, which in Europe has translated to 70 Euro.
However, with the launch of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, several game studios began raising the price from 70 to 80 Euro in Europe and from 60 to 70 dollar in the US.
So in addition to Nintendo raising the price for digital games, the Japanese company is going even further for game cartridges.
The Nintendo Switch 2 console will launch in June 2025 with support for 4K, 120fps in HD and HDR. The console itself will also get more expensive.
