Samsung to launch LCD TVs with RGB micro-LED up to 115" this year

09 Apr 2025 | Rasmus Larsen |

Samsung's TV chief has confirmed the launch of LCD TVs with micro-LED backlights up to 115 inches in 2025. The company also plans to increase sales of OLED TVs.

First unveiled at CES 2025 in January, Samsung's 'RGB Micro LED' technology takes LCD TVs to the next level by replacing the miniLED backlight with an RGB micro-LED backlight, delivering 20% improved energy efficiency, a wider color gamut, and more local dimming zones, according to the company.

In January, Samsung said it was considering launching 75 and 85-inch 4K models later in 2025, as well as a 98-inch version with 8K resolution.

Coming in 115 inches too

At a press conference in Seoul this week, Yong Seok-woo, president and head of Samsung’s Visual Display Business, confirmed that a 115-inch version will also be released, according to a report by The Elec. The first LCD TVs with RGB micro-LED are expected to launch in June. It remains unclear whether the 115-inch model will offer 4K or 8K resolution. TCL CSOT is currently the sole supplier of 115-inch LCD panels, and the existing panel has 4K resolution.

LCD, LED and OLED TVs

Samsung's RGB micro-LED backlit LCD TVs will compete with similar LCD models featuring RGB LED backlights from Hisense and TCL, showcased at CES (here and here). Sony is expected to enter the segment in 2026. Samsung also confirmed plans to significantly ramp up OLED TV shipments in 2025. Note that these upcoming LCD TVs with RGB LED backlight should not be confused with true Micro-LED TVs, where the LEDs act as individual self-emissive pixels and no LCD layer is used. - Source: The Elec
