OLED TV demand surges in world's largest TV market

23 Apr 2025 | Rasmus Larsen |

China, the world’s largest TV market, is seeing a surge in demand for OLED TVs in the premium segment, according to Omdia.

As the leading manufacturing country of LCD panels, China has pushed miniLED LCD as an alternative to OLED, which for now are exclusively produced in South Korea.

However, much like in Europe and the US, Chinese consumers are increasingly turning to OLED when shopping for premium TVs, according to market research firm Omdia.

80% OLED share in 2025?

In China's premium TV segment ($2500 and above), OLED is heading toward a nearly 80% market share in 2025 – a dramatic increase from 2024.

- "According to data released by global tech research and advisory group Omdia on Monday, OLED screens are forecast to make up 78.3% of China’s premium TV market in 2025, up 31.1 percentage points from the previous year’s 47.2%," reports Korean newspaper KED Global. - "Over the same period, the share of LCD panels in the market is projected to shrink to 21.7% from 52.8%."

Market momentum

LG and Samsung are both expanding their OLED TV lineups globally in 2025, introducing new and more 83-inch options. As a result of the situation in China, panel supplier LG Display is expected to return to profitability in 2025, its first profit in four years. - Source: KED Global
