02 May 2025 | Rasmus Larsen |

Despite declining Xbox console sales, Microsoft is raising the price of both Xbox Series X and Series S. New games will become more expensive starting this holiday season.

Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X launched in November 2020 at $300/€300 and $500/€500 respectively.

In June 2023, Microsoft increased the price of Series X by €50. It is happening again as of May 2025, and this time Series S is also going up in price.

- "As of May 1, we have adjusted recommended retailer pricing for our consoles and controllers worldwide," Microsoft announced.

20% increase since launch

Console prices usually drop after launch, but this generation has been different. The price of Xbox Series has now risen 20% since its launch in November 2020. Similarly, the price of PlayStation 5 has increased by 25% since its November 2020 launch. The recommended price of Xbox Series S is increasing from $300/€300 to €350/$380, also a significant hike.

More expensive console games

At the same time, Microsoft is announcing that its new big first-party games will become more expensive starting this holiday season. A price of $80 is mentioned, which typically converts to €90 in Europe. - "We also expect to adjust the pricing of some of our new, first-party games starting this holiday season to $79.99. Those titles purchased on the Xbox Store have the benefit of Xbox Play Anywhere, allowing players to buy once and play on console and PC at no additional cost," Microsoft stated. Nintendo recently did the same. The last price increase for Xbox games came in 2023.
