TCL, one of the last major TV makers to hold out, will add Filmmaker Mode to its miniLED LCD TVs in 2025.
Hollywood introduced Filmmaker Mode in 2019, with early support from a few TV brands. Since then, adoption has gradually expanded to more TV brands and streaming services.
Filmmaker Mode is designed to present movies as the director intended, with accurate colors and luminance in SDR and HDR, while disabling motion smoothing and other picture processing.

Although Filmmaker Mode often resembles the Movie or Cinema picture mode, it offers a standardized label to make it easier for consumers to select an accurate image mode across TV models and brands.
TCL will implement Filmmaker Mode for the first time in its 2025 TVs including the C6K, C7K, C8K, C9K and X11K in Europe and QM6K, QM7K, QM8K and X11K in North America. At launch, Filmmaker Mode will be available for SDR and HDR10 content.

TCL told FlatpanelsHD that while Filmmaker Mode is designed for dark-room viewing, its traditional Movie picture mode will still be available for brighter environments.

TCL's 2025 TVs will also support automatic switching into Filmmaker Mode with compatible streaming services, such as Prime Video. Auto switching will, by the way, be added for the IMAX Enhanced picture mode later.
In the second half of 2025, a firmware update will add Filmmaker Mode for Dolby Vision. TCL says this may replace Dolby Vision Dark, but a final decision has yet to be made.
TCL would not commit to bringing Filmmaker Mode to its 2024 TV models but did not rule it out completely.
