LG Display has just unveiled the first "dream OLED" with blue PHOLED alongside other new display prototypes.
As announced earlier this month, LG Display has become the first display maker to design a production-ready OLED with the significantly more efficient phosphorescent blue OLED (PHOLED), as opposed to fluorescent blue used in all OLED displays today. The red and green OLEDs have already transitioned to phosphorescence.
At SID Display Week 2025 this week, the company is showing off this new technology to the public for the first time ever; a 13-inch "dream OLED" intended for IT devices such as tablets and laptops.
- "With significantly greater luminous efficiency than all OLED generations to date, blue phosphorescent OLED is the result of LG Display’s implementation of a newly developed hybrid two-stack Tandem OLED structure," said LG Display. "By featuring blue phosphorescence in the upper stack of this structure, the IT panel exhibited at SID Display Week 2025 consumes about 15% less power than existing OLED panels."
You can see the new display in this video around the 1:07 mark. LG Display's other new panels showcased at SID are also included in the video.
Other OLED news
At SID, LG Display is additionally showcasing its 4th generation OLED technology, also known as Primary RGB Tandem, which is starting to appear now in TVs up to 83 inches, such as LG G5, Panasonic Z95B and Philips OLED910.
This technology will soon make it to OLED monitor panels, starting with a 27-inch panel as revealed by FlatpanelsHD. The company gave a demonstration on the advantages, comparing one of its existing OLED monitor panels to the new RGB Tandem OLED monitor panel, which delivers improved color, up to 1500 nits peak brightness and VESA's HDR True Black 500 tier.
In addition, the company is showcasing transparent OLED, slideable OLED, the first 45-inch 5K2K OLED monitor panel as well as stretchable display technology (micro-LED).

A 22-inch micro-LED
In addition, LG Display unveiled a "zero bezel" micro-LED module. These micro-LED modules can be assembled to create larger displays, like how the first micro-LED TVs are made.
LG Display's prototype was a 22-inch display made up of two micro-LED modules, as seen below.
LG Display supplies display panels to a long list of major consumer brands including Apple, LG Electronics, Samsung Electronics, Sony, Panasonic and Philips.
