After a long drought, LG Display will again start investing in next-generation OLED technology, production and equipment. 1.26 trillion won ($917 million) has been earmarked.
The move comes just two months after LG Display sold its last remaining LCD TV panel factory to TCL CSOT for approximately $1.5 billion, marking a complete exit from LCD TV panel production.
Like Samsung Display, LG Display is now fully committed to OLED, so it comes as no surprise that the company is ramping up its investment in the technology. The $917 million will be spent between now and June 2027.
Next-gen OLED technology
LG Display told Korean media that the investment will go toward expanding infrastructure and increasing production capacity for advanced OLED technologies. 55% of the total amount will be allocated to its production hub in Paju, South Korea.
- "The South Korean display panel said the funds will be spent on building infrastructure, including equipment, to apply new OLED technologies. The facilities will be used to manufacture panels and modules with next-generation premium OLED technologies applied," reported Korean newspaper The Elec.

Exactly what LG Display plans to produce remains unclear, as the company is already manufacturing the new 4-layer RGB Tandem OLED panels.
LG Display produces small- to large-sized OLED panels for watches, tablets, laptops, monitors, TVs, and more.
The company also did not provide an update on its long-delayed 10.5G production line for "super-sized OLED" panels, originally announced back in 2017.
