As promised, Samsung is now rolling out Tizen 9.0 – the version introduced with the 2025 models – to older Smart TVs. The update brings a revamped settings menu and other tweaks.
About a year ago, Samsung finally abandoned its poor practice of not upgrading Tizen on older Smart TVs. The company has committed to 7 years of free OS upgrades from the launch date of the TV.
In October 2024, Samsung began upgrading its 2023 models from Tizen 7.0 to 8.0 – the same version that launched with the 2024 models in April/May – marking a delay of at least 6 months.
Tizen 9.0 for older Smart TVs
This week, owners of Samsung 2024 TVs in Europe have started receiving firmware version 2106.0, which upgrades the OS from Tizen 8.0 to Tizen 9.0.
This is a reduction from the 6-month waiting period last year. However, it will take many months still before the new firmware reaches all Samsung 2024 and 2023 models around the world. As always, Samsung is rolling out the firmware gradually, so check your TV regularly to see if it is next in line.
As of writing, the company has not made any official statement about when 2023 models will receive Tizen 9.0.

Tizen 9.0 introduces a redesigned settings menu that can be resized and have its transparency adjusted by the user. It also includes a handful of other interface tweaks, security updates (including CryptoCore), and support for Samsung's Live Translate feature for subtitles. Overall, Tizen 9.0 is a relatively small upgrade.
On the other hand, the update removes the Game HDR option with HGiG.
