Reavon briefly filled the gap left by Oppo, but its run has ended. The French company has discontinued all UHD Blu-ray players, citing a shortage of components.
Oppo exited the Blu-ray market in 2018, Samsung in 2019, and LG in 2024.
It is part of a broader trend of consumers increasingly abandoning physical media in favor of streaming movies online.
Reavon pulls the plug
French company Reavon sought to replace Oppo with its robustly designed UHD Blu-ray players, UBR-X100, UBR-X110 and UBR-X200, which supported universal HDR video playback.
Reavon confirmed its withdrawal to CE Critic:
- "We kindly inform you that all of our Reavon players are discontinued worldwide. No plans for replacement models at this time due to lack of specific components on the market."
The component shortage also means Reavon players cannot be repaired if they fail, a reality customers have encountered (link to Reddit).
The market is not dead
Reavon’s exit leaves Magnetar as the high-end UHD Blu-ray brand. However, if Reavon's claim about component shortages is accurate, it signals troubling times for physical media enthusiasts.
Panasonic and Sony continue to offer more affordable UHD Blu-ray players.
Last year, FlatpanelsHD published an in-depth article on the state of the Ultra HD Blu-ray market.
