We first learned about Thomson's new "Chromecast" in April. The product is now available to buy in Europe as an affordable streaming dongle.
The compact HDMI dongle plugs into your TV – just like Chromecast – and runs Google TV – just like Chromecast.
The resemblance is hard to miss, but with Google having fully discontinued its Chromecast, and introduced a much pricier alternative with the Google TV Streamer, Thomson's new dongle is welcome news for consumers looking for a low-cost streaming device.
Supports 4K HDR and Dolby Atmos
It is named the Thomson Go Cast 150 and it support streaming in up to 4K at 60fps. It also handles HDR10, but not Dolby Vision. In terms of audio, it supports Dolby Atmos.
With Google TV built-in, it provides access to both local and international streaming services, including Disney+, Apple TV+, Max and Netflix.

It is a compact device that does not match the performance of more powerful streaming boxes like Apple TV 4K or Nvidia Shield. Thomson instead positions the dongle as ideal for users with basic needs or those who want a portable streaming option. It comes with 2GB of RAM, 8GB of storage and built-in WiFi and Bluetooth.
Thomson is owned by Austrian company StreamView, and the device is launching widely across Europe as part of Thomson's growing portfolio, which also includes TVs and a streaming box. All products come with a 3-year warranty.
Thomson Go Cast 150 is available now in Europe for 50 Euro.
