The first monitor with the 4th-generation OLED technology – also known as Primary RGB Tandem – is a flat 27-inch gaming monitor with 1440p resolution and 280Hz refresh rate.
LG's 27GX700A is available now in the US, with plans to expand to more regions soon. Later this year, Asus and Gigabyte will launch their first monitors with the 4th-generation panel.
It is marketed as a gaming monitor under LG's UltraGear sub-brand, with 2560x1440 resolution, 280Hz refresh rate and support for both AMD FreeSync Premium and Nvidia G-Sync Compatible. It is also DisplayHDR TrueBlack 500 certified.
First of its kind

4th gen OLED has more emissive layers
The big news, of course, is that the monitor is the first of its kind. The 4th-generation technology is made up of 4 layers in an 'Primary RGB Tandem' structure, and is already available in TVs such as LG G5 and Panasonic Z95B. It competes with QD-OLED.
LG said that the monitor delivers up to 1500 nits peak brightness, higher full-screen brightness, and an expanded color gamut. The panel should also be more energy efficient, potentially prolonging lifetime.
- "Introducing LG’s first gaming monitor powered by 4th Gen OLED with revolutionary Primary RGB Tandem technology – reaching up to 1500 nits of peak brightness for visibly clearer gameplay. In fast-paced or sunlit in-game scenes, enhanced APL and reduced ABL help maintain consistent luminance without dimming critical visuals," said LG Electronics.
It features two HDMI ports and one DisplayPort 1.4.

More 4th-gen panels soon
LG Display has said that its RGB Tandem OLED technology will gradually come to more monitor panel sizes.
The next panel is expected to be the 540/720Hz OLED panel teased in June. Asus has already teased one such monitor and LG Electronics is likely to also launch one.
