Hisense and Samsung recently launched the first LCD TVs with RGB LED, but Sony may offer a broader lineup with more options next year.
The prediction was made by David Hsieh, Research Director for Displays at Omdia, based on the market research firm's industry insights and sources.
After Hisense and Samsung having launched the first LCD TVs with RGB LED backlights earlier this month, he expects Sony and TCL to launch RGB LED technology in 2026.
Sony and TCL
Omdia's timeline aligns with Sony's indications during the exclusive preview, attended by FlatpanelsHD, of its next-gen RGB LED technology.
As for TCL, there are not many details yet. FlatpanelsHD saw TCL's first 'RGB miniLED' prototype at CES in January and we expect to learn more at CES 2026 in January.

Bravia 9 and Bravia 7?
Omdia believes that Sony will launch the new technology in a 2026 Bravia 9, likely to be named Bravia 9 II, in 65, 75, 85 and 115-inch sizes based on VA LCD panels from TCL. This would already be a wider lineup than those from Hisense and Samsung.
Curiously, Omdia believes that Sony will also introduce RGB LED technology in its cheaper Bravia 7 II range, in 50, 55, 65, 75, 85 and 98 or 100-inch sizes, likely based on VA LCD panels from AUO.

If true, Sony will be shifting its focus for high-end LCD TVs from miniLED to RGB LED. Sony continues to also sell OLED TVs, currently in two ranges, either with QD-OLED or WOLED.
