Gemini is replacing Google Assistant on the big screen. TCL is the first TV brand to bring Gemini to its TVs, with more brands and models following later this year.
Update Nov 11, 2025: Gemini is now also rolling out to the Google TV Streamer, the company has confirmed, with the rollout expected to take several weeks. Gemini is only supported in English (US, Canada) and French (Canada). Check under Settings -> Accounts & Profiles -> Voice Assistant to see if your Google TV Streamer is already eligible for the update.
There is a new battlefield for AI-powered voice assistants. Gemini will compete with Amazon's Alexa+, Samsung's upgraded Bixby and soon Apple's upgraded Siri.

Just say “Hey Google” or press the microphone button on your TV remote to unlock a new world of possibilities," announced Shalini GovilPai, VP of Google TV.

FlatpanelsHD previewed Gemini on Google TV earlier this year. While we were not entirely convinced – Gemini still answers many content requests with YouTube searches – it does feel like a step forward from Google Assistant.

- For the group: Movie night doesn't need to be a debate. Finding something everyone can agree on is as simple as asking, "Find me something to watch with my wife. I like dramas, but she likes lighthearted comedies."
- For the catch-up: When a new season of your favorite show launches, get up to speed in an instant. Just ask, "What happened in the last season of ‘Outlander’?"
- For the vague search: Can't remember the name of that new show everyone's talking about? Just describe it. "What's the new hospital drama everyone's talking about?" Gemini will recommend a few options, like “The Pitt.”
You can also ask follow-up questions to see reviews, for example.
Gemini can also provide weather forecasts, help you with information queries, and cooking tips.

Gemini is initially available on TCL’s high-end QM9K series, launched earlier this month.

"Later this year, Gemini will be available on more devices, including the Google TV Streamer, Walmart onn. 4K Pro, 2025 Hisense U7, U8, and UX models, and 2025 TCL QM7K, QM8K, and X11K models," said Shalini GovilPai.
The company also promised more Gemini features on TVs soon, across the 300 million active Google TV and Android TV devices worldwide.
