One of Hollywood's living legends, Steven Spielberg, continues to restore his classics so they can be experienced at home in 4K HDR.
We have already seen 4K releases of Spielberg films such as Jaws, Schindler's List, Hook, Saving Private Ryan, E.T. and Jurassic Park.
Restored editions of the Indiana Jones films have also been released. You can find the full overview in the 4K movie database.
Minority Report coming soon
Still, many Spielberg classics have yet to be restored in 4K, including Munich, Empire of the Sun, Bridge of Spies and A.I. to name a few.
Also the sci-fi classic Minority Report, but luckily we are soon getting this one. Paramount will release Minority Report on UHD Blu-ray in mid-December (pre-order here) with 4K Dolby Vision and DTS audio. The date for the online release was not confirmed.
Paramount has also just released Catch Me If You Can in 4K Dolby Vision. It is available now through online VOD stores such as the Apple TV app, and will be out on UHD Blu-ray in mid-December (pre-order here).
Hollywood is busy restoring
Hollywood has been busy restoring older films in 4K. This is possible because many were shot on film that can be rescanned at higher resolution and dynamic range, and cleaned up.
Most recently, David Fincher released restored versions of some of his biggest films, including Se7en and Zodiac – and soon Fight Club.
Last year, we also finally got The Abyss, Aliens, Titanic and True Lies from James Cameron.
