Netflix and Spotify have struck a deal to bring video podcasts to Netflix. The pact challenges one of YouTube's core segments.
In addition to movies, series, documentaries, reality shows and sports, viewers will soon be able to turn to Netflix to watch video podcasts in sports, pop culture and true crime.
The first titles, listed in the table at the bottom, will be added in 2026. Initially in the US and later in other countries.
- "As video podcasts continue to grow in popularity, our partnership with Spotify allows us to bring full video versions of these top shows to both Netflix and Spotify audiences. From pop culture and lifestyle to true crime and sports, this curated selection of video podcasts adds fresh voices and new perspectives to Netflix, making our entertainment lineup more exciting than ever," said Lauren Smith, Netflix VP for Content Licensing and Programming Strategy.
Exclusive deals to keep YouTube out
According to the New York Times, podcasts that end up on Netflix cannot be offered on YouTube, which is a huge platform for both audio and video podcasts.
More than 1 billion monthly users reportedly listen to podcasts on YouTube. Netflix and Spotify hope to challenge Google's position of power through their new pact.
In addition to podcasts, Netflix is increasing its investment in live sports and video games.
