Asus launches first 8K HDR monitor

16 Oct 2025 | Rasmus Larsen |

Asus PA32KCX arrives this month with 8K resolution in 32 inches, an LCD panel, miniLED with 4032 zones and up to 1200 nits peak brightness.

8K has yet to catch on in the consumer market, and before that can happen professionals need tools to work with 8K content.

That is what Asus aims to provide with the PA32KCX. It is not the first 8K monitor (that was Dell’s 8K monitor in 2017) but it is the first one that also supports HDR – at least on paper.

33 million pixels

With more than 33 million pixels (7680x4320) spread across 32 inches diagonally, the monitor can display extremely fine detail in professional apps, photos and videos, which is what it is designed for. It features a 10-bit IPS LCD panel and a miniLED backlight with 4032 dimming zones. It delivers up to 1200 nits peak brightness and 1000 nits full-screen brightness, along with 97% DCI-P3 and 99% AdobeRGB color coverage. It comes pre-calibrated and supports calibration via Calman and Light Illusion using a built-in sensor. You can connect it to a PC or Mac using Thunderbolt 4, HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 2.1. There is also an integrated USB 3.2 hub. Thunderbolt 4 delivers up to 96W of power.

High Dynamic Range?

Asus advertises support for HDR, specifically HDR10, HLG and Dolby Vision. The company backs this up with 4032 miniLED zones, which is quite a lot for a 32-inch monitor. However, we have seen IPS LCD monitors before with many zones that still fall short of true HDR picture quality. It is worth noting that 4032 miniLED zones mean each zone still covers 8228 pixels. Time will tell how the monitor performs. We are still chasing that but expect it to be a big number.
