With YouTube completely absent from Apple's visionOS, Vimeo is stepping in to serve 3D fans with support for VR180, Apple Immersive Video and APMP.
The expanded support was announced at Vimeo's Reframe event this week. Some features are already live, while the Apple-specific formats will arrive later in Q4 2025.
- "Users can now host VR180 content, with Apple Immersive Video and Apple Projected Media Profile support coming in Q4, enabling creators to capture in Blackmagic cameras, edit in Final Cut Pro, and distribute directly via Vimeo," announced Vimeo.
YouTube sitting it out
Google has opted not to release YouTube for visionOS on Apple Vision Pro – not even the iPad app with 2D playback. The YouTube app is available with VR video support on Android XR in Samsung's Galaxy XR.
Vimeo is now positioning itself as the go-to platform for user-generated 3D video on Apple Vision Pro. Users must simply download the Vimeo app for visionOS.

Apple Immersive videos
Vimeo's VR180 support will make many existing VR180 videos accessible, but support for Apple Immersive Video may prove even more significant.
Until now, the Apple TV app has been the only way to experience these incredibly immersive video shot at up to 8K 3D 90fps on the Blackmagic Ursa Cine Immersive camera – a format Apple opened to third-party creators earlier this year.
As for APMP (Apple Projected Media Profile), the format was introduced at WWDC25 as a new media profile supporting VR180, VR360 and wide field-of-view video.
